Independent Voices

Independent Voices is a grass roots, not-for-profit, independent media organization in North Carolina. They produce a 30 minute long news show once or twice a month covering social justice issues in the state. I volunteered with them for a year and some change while living in Durham. The organization has been growing in recent months and is now working closely with several other media organizations in the triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill).

You can view past episodes (several of which I worked on) on their YouTube Channel.

Click here to view the last segment I had the pleasure of working on before leaving Durham. I did some of the camera work, no editing on this one as I was too busy packing for my big move!

This short documentary was created as part of a larger project called "Anytown USA: the Beast of Bladenboro". We had a couple of screenings, and were featured on local public radio, with yours truly as the student representative being interviewed by Frank Stasio. Click here to listen.

Lumbee Protest "Bob and the Showgram" (original)

In 2008 members of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and other indigenous communities in the state gathered at the state capitol to protest hate speech on a local radio program, "Bob and the Showgram".

This short doc also became a segment on Independent Voices, and became the first of their segments picked up by Independent Weekly for use on their website. View the segment version here.
